What Women Think: Results of A Survey

What Women Think-postimageWhat Women Think: Results of A Survey

Results from a survey on Sensuality, Womanhood and Motherhood for the novel The Donor: When Conception Meets Deception

My debut novel is about Chase Archibald a 30 year old, 6′ 3″ chisel bodied, intelligent, loyal, charming Johnny Handsome type. He’s a fast rising young professor with flawless mocha brown skin, a heart of gold, a tender touch when you need it and a steel clutch when you want it. He’s the man all women want and all men want to be. There’s just one problem. He’s a lie. And in order to keep a secret past from destroying his perfect lie he will be blackmailed into repaying a debt…with his body. He is The Donor: When Conception Meets Deception.

In the novel he must agree to become a “natural” sperm donor. That is to say he must actually engage in the act with several women who wish to get pregnant without going to a fertility clinic. The novel explores themes related to running from our pasts, not dealing with our truths, and it explores womanhood, motherhood and sensuality. To help me as an author, especially a male one, in creating authentic female characters I asked for feedback from women to help me in my research.

I conducted a survey to gather responses from women around three basic questions:

  1. What is the relationship between womanhood and motherhood?
  2. Why would a woman choose to get pregnant by purposefully having  “sex with no strings attached” vs. going to a fertility clinic?
  3. What are your fantasies, desires, and preferences in a man sexually?

The survey consisted of 12 multiple choice and free form text questions. All respondents were women 18 and over. The survey was anonymous and judgment free. 104 women responded over the course of 4 weeks. Results are below.
