In this podcast Professor Mikal Naeem Nash of Rutgers University discusses the role of Islam in early 20th century by focusing on the Newark, NJ Black community. He specifically deals with early proto-Islamic movements such as the Moorish Science Temple under the leadership of Noble Drew Ali and others. In order to understand Islam in America it is important to understand the history of Islam in America including those movements that were not necessarily orthodox.
